Make a Difference for Wolves

Every summer, the California Wolf Center faces a growing danger: wildfires. As the climate crisis escalates, the dry conditions and high winds turn our peaceful refuge into a potential fire zone. This year with the soaring temperatures, the threat is more serious than ever and we need your help.

Our facility, nestled in the fragile ecosystem of Julian, California, is more vulnerable than ever. With wildfire seasons starting earlier and earlier each year, we’re facing an urgent reality: we must act now to protect the wolves, staff and native wildlife.

The CWC is home to over twenty wolves which remain the symbol of the wilderness and resilience within our homelands. At our facility they depend upon their enclosed habitats for safety, space and survival. As do their caretakers who dedicate their lives to their well-being. But right now, we are under-equipped to respond quickly if a wildfire strikes.

We need your help!

This summer, we are launching an urgent campaign to raise funds to purchase essential firefighting equipment that will help us protect:

The wolves: many of whom cannot be relocated easily in an emergency

Our staff and volunteers: who live within the local community and work on-site year round

The land: large swathes of coastal sage scrub, grasslands and forested habitats which support an irreplaceable ecosystem including essential keystone apex predators


We’re calling on you, our wolf community who love and believe in the mission of wolf conservation, to help us to prepare for the worst whilst hoping for the best.

Preparation is everything

In the event of a wildfire every second counts. Our current response tools need to be updated and in some cases replaced entirely. With your donation, we can purchase:

1. Portable heavy duty gas powered water pump

2. High pressure hoses and manual reels

3. All terrain trailer for pump and hoses

4. Backup generators
   

These tools won’t just help us respond, they’ll help us act quickly and safely. This will ensure that the wolves remain fully protected in the case of an emergency and that our dedicated team can do their jobs without putting their lives in danger.

We hope we never have to face a wildfire. But if we do we want to know we’ve done everything we can to protect our center and the well being of our wolf population.
