"It Takes A Village" Art Show and Fundraising Event

Join us at the California Wolf Center in Julian, CA from 2 pm (1:30 pm check in) to 5 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2014 for an inspirational journey exploring the delicate balance between nature and humans through the eyes of the wolf. In a dramatic original series of pen and ink depictions created especially for the California Wolf Center, artist Lindsay Carron captures the essence of this highly sophisticated social animal. The event will feature a brief presentation from the artist on her work and inspiration, a tour of our conservation center with guided viewing of our ambassador wolf packs, music by acoustic guitarist Elsie May, live auction of four very special original drawings by Lindsay Carron and collaborating artists, a mock-tails bar, and light hors d'oeuvres. Admission is $35 per person, which will go to support recovery of the critically endangered Mexican gray wolf. Reservations are required, so call 760-765-0030 to reserve your spot today! Artist Workshop with Vic Bearcroft

Join award-winning author and wildlife artist Vic Bearcroft at the California Wolf Center from 10 am to 5 pm on both May 24 and 25, 2014 for a two-day workshop observing, photographing, and sketching the California Wolf Center's resident ambassador wolves. Learn about the special effects created by the combination of pastels and velour paper. Vic is a very experienced art tutor and will show you techniques in an easy to follow step by step approach. Techniques covered will include tonal sketching to blocking in basic colors, adding layers of fur texture for realism, and creating natural looking backgrounds and impact highlights for atmosphere and drama. This is truly a unique workshop for every wolf and art lover! The cost is $295 per person (with 10% of proceeds being donated to the California Wolf Center). Registration includes all materials, tuition, daily photography sessions, and light refreshments. Seating is limited, and advanced reservations are required. Photography Tours

Calling all photographers! The California Wolf Center invites you to participate in a unique program! Each year, we teach thousands of people about wolves and their important role in the ecosystem. To aid in these efforts, we need high quality photos of our wolves. Please consider signing up for one of our special photography tours for a chance to photograph the wolves behind the scenes. Wildlife Handling and Chemical Immobilization Course

Each year in January, the California Wolf Center hosts a course taught by Dr. Mark Johnson (of the original Yellowstone wolf reintroduction, among other things). Dr. Johnson has decades of international experience handling a variety of species. The next course will be held on January 9, 10, and 11, 2014. Wolf Awareness Week 2013

Wolf Awareness Week 2013 was held on Saturday, October 26, 2013. John Vucetich, Associate Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Michigan Tech University and co-director of the Isle Royale wolf-moose study, spoke at both afternoon and evening programs about the wolves of Isle Royale. This fundraising event benefitted the California Wolf Center's resident wolves as well as our efforts to help wolves recover in the wild, including in our home state of California.
